2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs. 2022 Ford F-150

At first glance, the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2022 Ford F-150 might seem to be equals. But the Chevy truck trumps the Ford one in some distinct ways, making it the better buy.

A Superior Bed and Tailgate

One of the clearest advantages the Silverado has over the F-150 is its truck bed and tailgate. The Durabed is "the most functional bed of any pickup," as Chevy proclaims. It’s built to resist scratches and dents as you go about life in Ohio. That means, your Silverado’s bed will look great for many years to come. The Silverado 1500’s bed is also roomier than the F-150’s bed, boasting best-in-class cargo bed volume.

Chevy has also incorporated a six-function Multi-Flex Tailgate and industry-first power-up/-down tailgate so you can get more done with your truck and access cargo more easily. Its Ford rival can’t match these two qualities. 

More Potent Options Under the Hood

When you go with a 2022 Silverado 1500, you get the advantages of Duramax and a more potent base engine. The available Duramax diesel engine has a 13,300-pound max tow rating. You won’t find that strength with the F-150, since Ford has done away with the Power Stroke® option for this model. 

The Silverado also has a more powerful base engine than that of the F-150. The Chevy truck’s 2.7-liter Turbo gets 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque while the F-150's 3.3-liter V6 gets just 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque.

Camera Tech that Goes a Step Beyond

Last but not least, the 2022 Silverado 1500 has a brand-exclusive camera feature called Transparent Trailer view. It lets you virtually glimpse what’s behind your trailer, whether you want to know who’s tailgating you on the highway or what obstacles you need to look out for when you’re backing up. The Ford F-150 doesn’t have a comparable tool.
