If a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is just a bit too big for your needs, consider getting the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado. The Colorado is a great, versatile truck that’s capable and stylish in a big way. Not only is the Colorado a great alternative to the Silverado; it’s also the superior truck to the 2021 Ford Ranger.

More engine options

The Colorado is available with three powerful engine options. This makes it easier to find the right amount of performance for your needs. Standard on the Colorado is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque. There are also two optional engines: a 3.6-liter V6 rated at 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque and a 2.8-liter Duramax® Turbo-Diesel with 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

If you choose the Ranger, there is only a single engine option available to you. All models come standard with a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. That means the Colorado has engine options that give you more torque or more horsepower.

Better efficiency and more towing power

The available 2.8-liter Duramax® Turbo-Diesel also offers better fuel efficiency with an EPA-estimated 28 mpg highway compared to 26 mpg highway on the Ranger.*

If you are looking to maximize the towing performance of your midsize truck, the Duramax® Turbo-Diesel also makes the Colorado the better choice. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 7,700 pounds.* The Ranger’s towing capacity is capped at 7,500 pounds.

Off-road capabilities

Both the Colorado and Ranger are available with off-road packages. However, with the Colorado, its packages offer rugged, segment-exclusive features. The ultra-impressive Colorado ZR2 comes with front and rear locking differentials and Multimatic™ shocks — features you won’t find on the Ranger.

For the ultimate in off-road capabilities, the Colorado ZR2 Bison was designed with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). This model is tough and comes with features like rear recovery points, front winch provisions, and boron steel skid plates.
